Secrets

I have a confession to make. I am 36 and have a cardiologist. Why? Well according to him I am genetically disadvantaged. Which is basically a nice way of saying I am screwed genetically. My cholesterol is pushing 300 (though my good is 57 which is good). My heart also has problems. My mitral valve leaks, most likely cause by infection that I didn't even know I had. It was discovered about three years ago when I noticed my other problem and went to get checked out. My heart skips and adds extra beats and then stumbles to get back into rhythm. The good thing i have going is that my blood pressure is perfect. So it was time to get serious. I am try to avoid medication because of side effects so I was basically told to get it together and I have 6 months before I go on medication. It's up to me doc said. If I do nothing I'll mostly likely have a major heart attack within 10 years. Talk about wake up call. So for the last 6 weeks I have been eating healthy. I mean really healthy. I was told to lose weight, eat right and the dreaded e word exercise. Thing is I was also told this by my primary doc, and my back doctor so I guess maybe I should listen. So to strengthen my heart I started running. Yes I said running. If you know me you know how much I hate running. I am doing the couch to 5k and here's the scary thing I am actually enjoying it. Now I have had to start real slow but I have logged in over 27 miles. My deadline is February when I go back to the cardiologist. My primary is keeping an eye on me and so far I have lost a little bit of weight but like she said I am building muscle which is heavier the fat so the weight number isn't everything.

I just hope this all works because basically it's scaring the crap out of me.

Yipes, that is scary news, Q. Mitral valve leak? That's awful.

I am SOOOO GLAD you're taking it seriously and watching your diet and are having success with exercise! It's one of God's natural highs, the good feeling from exercising. You're going to have to find something for the wintertime, though. It won't always be easy to run in the cold/snow/et cetera.

My thoughts and prayers (for what they're worth) are with you.

Much love and hugs and smoochies to all
