Weaving and a miracle

This above is me finally going beyond just plain back and forth weave. I read and then read some more -patterns blogs and articles. I am very much new to this even though i have had my loom for years. It seems that I do this. Hop around learn something move on then come back and learn something new and repeat. Well it turns out that not only knitting patterns lie so do weaving ones. I wasn't even close to having enough yarn for the blue one. =(  I'll make it into something from it. The color is too pretty not to.(BTW its Periwinkle Sheep aran in Grace.

This is the same pattern in a different yarn. Its in black and white. Hopefully a Christmas gift. Now I actually finished the weaving and its off the loom (weaving is very fast compared to knitting) half the ends are finished off. Of course it still looks the wrong size. To me it looks to short but we shall see after a nice soaking and blocking. One more thing to block-ugh! I have literally a Lowe's 5 gallon bucket full of blocking. Probably should do that soon.

This is the miracle. Only Mj knew I was taking the picture ( hence why it not a great picture). This is proof that my 4 wonderful kids can actually be in a room (Dillon's) and get along!!!!Yes the 3 older ones are on their laptops playing Minecraft together. For almost 2 hours!! Together the 4 of them!! WITHOUT FIGHTING!!!!!! They were being nice to each other!!!

I'm sure you can tell by my wording this is not something that happens in this house. I just had to mave some sort of proof. I'm thinking of having this picture printed and framed. It give me hope that it can happen. Fingers crossed.

Don't mow your phone

I know its common sense =). Honestly I don't even know how it happened. I only knew something happened because the song changed. I looked down and no phone.  Thankfully my case saved my phone from becoming trash. Just needed a new case.. Thank you Otterbox.  Worth the money.

I spent yesterday harvesting from the garden again. I feel like i just did this.
TOP: peppermint and regular basil
BOTTOM: thyme, parsley (not so much this time - a caterpillar found my parsley last week and got nice and fat. Said caterpillar has been relocated) lemon basil (not so much this time because the regular basil over crowded it out. That has been fixed) and purple basil.

My peppermint. Tea anyone?

The tomatoes are starting to turn red.  I have a feeling that they are going to turn together and that will be a lot of tomatoes from only 4 plants.

My garden this year has already been a bigger success then last year. I really need to clean up the flower bed and replant some plants before fall gets here. Just need the be a little cooler for me to get out there.

Next time - Weaving! Yes I dug my loom out and finally got around to learning more then just plain weave =)

Sometimes you just have to stop

It has felt like the only time i seem to be not doing something is when I'm sleeping.

Tonight dinner ended early enough and it was nice out, so I figured before everything becomes a muddy mess (lots of rain due tomorrow and our soil here is clay and there is underground streams which makes for a messy yard for a few days before it dries out) we would have a fire.

Of course you cant have a fire without marshmallows, and then you need chocolate and graham crackers

We just sat and s'mored until Mj's bedtime.

It was just what i needed.

Random stuff

My two Marcs

Ang teaching an old cat new tricks

the only teacher gift I made. Tissue paper flowers. They actually look amazing in the vase. (bonus - i bought everything in the dollar store )

My MJ being himself, hamming it up at his pre k graduation. ( I am going to be a mess when this one goes off to kindergarten)

Kris and her special effect make up. She is getting really good and she doesn't use anything special. Just things around the house and regular make up.

This is Hubby's signed Jason mask. He wanted to display it but keep it safe. We saw one similar displayed in a shadow box. Well for that to happen it would have had to be a custom box and they get quite pricey. Well a trip to Lowe's and AC Moore and a couple of days later -TA DA. I made one for him.. The front opens and mine lights up. It is kinda creepy in the dark to see it there. Of course this opened up a can of worms. Hubby has and actual signed piece of a zombie from the Walking Dead show and he wants something for that. Isnt he lucky I am crafty.

Harvesting

So this year I made a raised garden (last year i used pots and well that was a bust) with just tomatoes, peppers (red and Jalapeno) and of course parsley, basil (3 different ones) and thyme. That was it until well spring fever really got a hold and I have strawberries, cayenne and a pepper called dragon - its basically a full size red pepper that is supposed to be really spicy and in this house we love spicy, and peppermint. Those are all in big pots on the deck and doing really well. Thing is my herbs are doing a little too well and almost two weeks ago we had a freak cold rainy day which was perfect to dry herbs in the oven without baking us in the house.

So low temp (my oven goes as low as 170) and tossing every 20-30 minutes I made a little dent. The picture is of 2 full sized baking sheets. I did seven. Today you can barely tell i cut so much.

Top Pan: regular basil on left, purple basil on bottom right, thyme all the way right and lemon basil is the middle top.
Bottom pan: parsley I had lots of parsley 3 pans by itself

Left to right: Parsley, Peppermint, Basil (both green and purple), Lemon Basil  then Thyme on the end

I see lots more in the future with the way things are growing out there.

16

Crazy how time passes. It sure didn't feel like it was 16 years ago at 9:05 am* that i was handed a crying bundle. Oh my baby boy you have broken me in in so many ways. You were the hardest pregnancy, scariest infancy and after countless (yes I have lost count on how many times over the last 16 years i have taken this boy to the ER) ER trips it takes a lot to get me to panic these days. Which I guess is a good thing with your siblings.

You always make me laugh, especially when i should be mad at you. I also know you completely take full advantage of this fact. You're changing so fast. You will be a junior in HS in September and I don't even want to think that college is just around the corner.

I love you my baby boy. I am so proud of you.  Happy Birthday!!

*Family story. My mother's watch stopped at 9:05 when you were born. She was at work and had no idea.  She still has that watch. Its also on video somewhere of her visit to you and telling and showing us the watch.
**Another little story. His birth was scary. Very short umbilical cord, and meconium in the amniotic fluid and he was stressing big time. I was given one last push before being rushed to the ER. Doctors where on stand by because they expected him to be in bad shape. Out he came screaming bloody murder and absolutely healthy. When the nurse went to take his footprints he manged to get ink all over her. His birth also showed me how strong I was. I was scared and so afraid for him that I used that last push while they were getting the ER ready and got my baby boy out. Granted I needed, according to the dr, about a hundred stitches to put me back together again. I never would have believed I was capable.

Book haul

Well my order from ThriftBooks arrived. In a very unscientific and random pick "Lies My Teacher Told Me" by James Loewen is first

Saturday, March 25, 2017

So it's March (Just a bunch of random thoughts)

Almost the end of March but still March. Big Year this year. I turn 40 Yesterday. Its just a number and really doesn't bother me.  Some days I feel like I'm still in my 20's other days my body betrays me and I feel like I am much much older.

I read something yesterday that made me laugh. You know your getting older when you get hurt by sleeping the wrong way.  It is so true.

Things I want to do this year. Read more. So Far this year I have finished 2 books. (Actual books. I read a lot of self published work online. Some of these people are very good writers)
-Laughing At My Nightmare by Shane Burcaw
-The Yarn Whisperer: My unexpected life in Knitting by Clara Parkes

I have also discovered Thriftbook.com. So far on my 2 orders I have spent $50 and for that was for 19 books. Novels and craft books, they have every thing even textbooks.

Mj wanted to get me pretty yarn for my birthday. This is what he picked

This is what happened when it was I left it alone for fifteen minutes. Little Miss Murphy

She has not messed with any of my yarn in a very long time. This one was a large knot that took about 40 minutes to fix. The second one like it she left alone and the third one was found under Mjs bed in the back corner. Thankfully the ball band held and it was just dusty.

Well I am being paged.  Hopefully this posts. Fingers crossed

I actually have pictures

Of something finished!!! So I showed a picture of a greenish blob last time, well it's done and blocked and I actually took a picture of me wearing it! And since the weather is all over the place I have actually used it and will be able to again. Yarn is a one of a kind from my dearest friend Karin dyer extraordinaire and owner of The Periwinkle Sheep and the pattern is called Nurmilintu. (Sorry I can't link)

Finally

This past month has seen nothing but sickness in my house. The past two weeks being the worst of it. Some really nasty virus had the nerve to move in. I'm talking 102-104+ fevers and congestion and tummy issues too. All doctors said if they didn't know we already had the flu (that was January's fun) they would think we had the flu. Ugh. Anyway finally we're all better. Nature is helping with 60s (and today topped at 72) so every thing has been cleaned and windows opened to air every thing out. Hopefully that's it as far as sickness is concern. Just the virus alone caused 4.5 weeks of missed school combined. So like I said 72 today. That equaled outside time including a walk to the post office

What's a knitter to do

When your Mj lost his gloves and the stores have freaking swim ware out and it's only January? Make mittens of course. No pattern just made them up as I went along :) love doing that!

A sweater and some

So Mj's sweater was finished, soaked, blocked and dried. Today it finally decided not to rain. So on it went and onto the deck we went.

As a plus Kris was with me so of course I had to include her. Yes they are wearing the same pants. I made Mj a pair for his birthday - he loves the fuzzyness.

The Murph has fallen in love with my down blanket. Don't blame her it's been nasty cold and rainy of late. Bubba boy has found his spot under Ang's bed were the heat vent blows the warm air. He only leaves to eat and do his business.
And lastly my spider plant is flowering. A- this is the first time I have ever seen this. B- I didn't even know that they had flowers and C-  I guess it didn't get the memo it's January

One Plus

Of having the flu. Lots of knitting time. What a week. Tuesday Dillon, Wednesday Ang, Mj and by Wednesday night Hubby and I. Kris was and so far (knock on wood) that escaped it.
Most of us are on the upswing in various degrees. Yeah it's been fun.
Anyway here's Mj's sweater. I am now on the yoke and about an inch-ish away from the first decrease round.
I know it's not a great picture (it was cloudy and snowing today so not great light) and all the stitches are scrunched onto the needle. I want to finish the sweater this weekend. Hopefully

Happy Birthday my little buddy boo

New Year New Projects -Lets try this again

(There was supposed to be lots of words here)

Ok let's see what did I say last night. Knitting wise I am all done with gift making. Still have a few sewing gifts to make. Anyway I started two projects on the left is the beginnings of a hat. I received Elizabeth Zimmerman's knitting workshop DVD and I'm knitting along with her. It's basically like a pbs series that goes along with her book. I am a huge fan of hers and even though I have been knitting for about 35 years (technically) I learned new things already in just a couple of episodes

The project on the right is the beginnings of a sweater for Mj. I am using one of Elizabeth Zimmerman "patterns". She was amazing you take you stitches per inch and three measurements and tada you have all you need to make a sweater. It's fun to watch it all come together

Speaking of Mj the boy loves to sit next to me when I yarn. His words. So sweet. He even hold the needles and moves them the right way. I vaguely showed him what I'm doing and he was so excited, asking questions like what if the needle come out of the loop. The boy will be five on Monday and he is a sharp cookie. You can see the wheels moving in his head as he tries to figure things out.

I'll try to get a picture next time

Well I think that's mostly what I said. Oh wait the yarn is from my friend Karin. Love the colors and they are two different ones. Mine is pretty and his is beautiful according to Mj.  Well I am off to go get said Mj from school
